David Rees-Williams Trio – Time Scape (2004)

This is the second David Rees-Williams album I own, picking it up cheap in a sale at Deal Library. He's someone I first encountered on a BBC Radio 3 Late Junction compilation. This is a radio programme which (I've just found out) still broadcasts 21st century music of all (unpopular) genres at 10pm on a Friday evening. Sounds better than most of what's on the TV!

David Rees-Williams' Trio (piano, bass, drums), play classical pieces in a jazz style, and it's a decent, interesting listen. But in most cases, not much more than that. This album doesn't feel as strong as its predecessor Hidden Colours, but there's nothing which isn't at least pleasant.

The central section of Purcell's Ground in E Minor, followed by the lively Buxtehude's Gigue Fugue and Elgar's Chanson de Matin are probably my highpoint, but the whole thing is very much background for me.
