The current ‘random choice’ mechanism from the shelves is to look for artists who only have one CD representing them on the shelves, and inevitably it’s throwing up the compilations, where I want the hits, but won’t be buying the whole back catalogue.
And this Dead Kennedys compilation sits exactly there. Almost certainly a quid in a charity shop, it mops up the singles and non-album tracks, including Police Truck, California Uber Alles, Too Drunk To Fuck, Holiday In Cambodia. It’s what you’d expect - short, high-energy tunes, and if you don’t like one, it’s not going to hang about and there’ll be another one along in a minute. But there’s not much which appeals like those singles. Certainly nothing as good as some of the tracks on Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables album or In God We Trust EP.
