The Dirty Three is an Australian instrumental trio, which includes Bad Seed Warren Ellis on violin and piano, hence my interest.
I've no idea when or where I bought this, nor of ever listening to it, so this might be a first.
Alice Wading opens - a listenable rock guitar and violin piece, then She Has No Strings, a slower and more rambling piece, a mood which continues across the next two tunes. Sister Let Them is a little more manic, while She Lifted The Net seems to shamble through a sorrowful tune. Finally Rude, which really wakes this listener up as a slow violin melody gives way to a full-on bluesy guitar riff.
It's an album which grew on me as it played and will probably reward further investigation.
3* - Enough to maintain the interest, but probably needs a second listen.
