About five years ago, a friend visited, we popped down the the Lighthouse on Walmer Strand for a few pints, and they had a band on. Garance and the Mitochondries were lively, entertaining, and after a few pints, buying the album Garance was selling seemed like a good idea. I'd enjoyed the gig, and we hadn't paid to get in.
I don't think I've listened to it since, certainly not in its entirety. So here goes.
It's an album of pleasant songs, all in French, with a characteristic Gallic accordion accompaniment alongside the band. None are stand outs, either as greats or stinkers, but there's a lot to interest. Garance has an appealing voice, and most songs have enough complexity in changes of mood and speed to keep them interesting.
3* - just a nice, gentle set of songs, very easy and rewarding to listen to.
