I first saw Grace Petrie about ten years ago, as part of Robin Ince's Nine Lessons show, and have seen her on a number of occasions since, And there's no woman better if you want an evening of left-wing, politically charged, well constructed folk-type songs, delivered with passion.
And whether it's political songs like Make America Hate Again, or tender love songs like The Golden Record, they're an interesting listen with carefully crafted listen. Nobody Knows I'm A Fraud is a fantastic, witty tale of imposter syndrome, and the album continues with similarly intelligent, gentle acoustic songs. And while I'm really enjoying the album, there's nothing that's made me think any more than "That's nice". The Vegan Song raises a wry smile, and is followed by the heartbreaking She's Not You.
It's an album I'll return to occasionally, even if there's little 'wow' there - perhaps the album at home lacks the warmth and geniality of Grace live.
3* - a lovely album, by an artist who deserves to be far better known.
