After a brief hiatus, HMHB reformed to make this, their third album, with title (and cover photo) taken fro Michael Palin’s Ripping Yarn, Golden Gordon. I picked this up for a couple of quid at a boot fair, having had the debut album Back In The DHSS on vinyl.
And without any massive HMHB blockbusters, this is a decent enough album, all the songs eminently listenable, and enough niche cultural references to raise a smile. Outbreak Of Vitas Gerulaitis, Let’s Not, Hadley Verityesque, Our Tune and Everything’s AOR stand out on an album where HMHB keep ticking over, rather than amaze. Some nice guitar work though!
3* - solid, if not spectacular HMHB
