Ry Cooder – Get Rhythm (1987)

This is the last of the Lutterworth Ry Cooder purchases, and I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that while I'm a fan of his guitar playing, I struggle with him more as a songwriter or bandleader.
This 1987 album is a real Americana roots music outing, drawing from country, blues, rock'n'roll, Cajun influences, and as I've hinted in the past it's not really my thing, even if I can appreciate when it's done well.
There are lots of covers, all OK, not inspiring, including Johnny Cash's Get Rhythm, Chuck Berry's 13 Question Method, and Elvis Presley's All Shook Up - with Walter Davis' I Can Tell By The Way You Smell being the most convincing.
Across The Borderline is a pleasant ballad, penned with Jim Keltner and John Hiatt, while Low-Commotion is an interesting instrumental.
But I'm afraid it mostly leaves me cold. It's not the type of music I really enjoy, no matter how much I admire the artist.
2* - I'm sure Americana roots fans will enjoy this, but I didn't much
