I hadn't heard of Sauna Youth until they appeared on Marc Riley's All Shook Up, under the name Monotony, performing the song of the same name, as well as Human Troll.
They interested me enough to seek out their album, which I bought from their website.
It's a no nonsense set of 14 tracks in half and hour - simple short songs which don't give you the chance to get bored of them. Transmitters is a bright, fast early number, while Monotony is an interesting monotone thrash, and Modern Living and Leather also hit the mark. Not all is inspiring - Paul is a short spoken piece which seems incongruous, but we're soon into the very punk Abstract Notions.
Try To Leave is a little more melodic, and works well. (Taking A) Walk is a gentle spoken piece, before we end with the impressive Creeping.
It's an enjoyable album, with nothing awful, even if not every one of the short songs hits the spot. Ultimately, there's nothing novel or earth-shattering here, but there's much to enjoy from a young band trying to make an impression
3* - Certainly worth a listen if you like it loud and fast.
