A quid in a charity shop, son of Richard and Linda Thompson, surely there will be something in the genes which deliver a few good tunes? I bought this many years ago, probably played it once or twice and haven't returned since.
The first impression after one listen is that this is a pleasant, listenable singer-songwriter album, but nothing stands out from hundreds of similar ones. I really don't know what to write. None of the songs stand out as exceptional or bad. All are extremely listenable. Thompson is clearly a talented musician and writer, but it all feels a bit samey and ordinary, and frankly, not really my thing.
If you like gentle, folky, well produced songs, there's plenty here for you. follow the link and give it a listen, but other than as pleasant background, this isn't for me.
2* - not my cup of tea, and nothing leaps out to convert me.
