Pete Wylie, self styled ‘part time pop star full time legend’, wrote some great songs and some of them are collected here. Originally released in 1982, this CD release has the original eleven tracks interspersed with some spoken word Radio Wah pieces and bonus tracks.
It’s a compilation of various singles, demos and alternative versions, kicking off with the powerful Remember and Somesay, before a string of demos for tracks from the Nah-Poo and Word To The Wise Guy albums. Interesting, but they don’t really add anything to the finished versions on those albums. It’s always good to hear Shambeko and Sleeep, but it’s fairly pedestrian until the wonderful Seven Minutes To Midnite. But once again, this live version lacks the energy and power of the album version. In the bonus tracks, there’s an interesting version of the Three Degrees’ Year Of Decision before the climactic long version of Story Of The Blues - always worth a listen.
3* - there’s just enough quality to justify this, even if they aren’t the best versions, but there’s also a lot of filler.
